Review: I've only started reading fics in this fandom, but I have to admit I was both curious and apprehensive about this pairing. It seemed like the sort of thing that would be very easy to do badly. This fic, however, is really a gem. The situation they find themselves in is so canonical that it's funny, and both boys are astonishingly IC. It's funny and sexy, and it even has an ending that seems canonical.

A roar from further down the cave system reached them, distracting them both. The roar was joined by a chorus of voices that cohered rockily into a beer-hall song.

"Look," Spike said, dragging his attention back to the matter at hand. "You're very butch, all right? Now will you bugger me? We haven't got all bloody night."

"Don't think I don't know you're being condescending." But he knee-walked his way over and ran a hand down Spike's back. The truth was, he'd circled back to being nervous. He knew very little about the mechanics of this act; in fact he'd worked very hard his whole life to avoid thinking about this act at all.

Summary: Sirius has blown too many chances to be reckless now.

Review: I've long been a fan of [info]happiestwhen's writing.  She has such a dense, fluid style that really sucks me in and makes me feel what the characters are feeling.  This is a lovely short fic set during OOTP, and I have to say I don't think I've read this pairing ever before.  This is a lovely introduction to it, and the writing really captures Sirius's claustrophobic regret and Ron's anxiety and inexperience.  It has a dreamlike quality to it that really left me thinking.

Ron and Harry are lying together in the dark in beds separated by space. Two blankets, two pillows, and two sets of sheets. They're close enough that Ron can imagine Harry's right next to him, but that's all it is: imagining. Ron can't reach over and touch Harry's shoulder, or press his fingers to Harry's forehead.

Summary: Harry never expected the peace to last forever. Dumbledore taught him better than that. He just didn't expect the next war to begin less than a month after Voldemort died. Never would he have dreamed that it would be a man's personal war against a system. The wizarding world was that system, and Harry was that man.

Review: I'm going to have to put much of this behind a cut, because it's long and contains spoilers. But let me start by saying that this is one of the best fics I think I've read this year. Seriously.

I love f's writing in general, but this is IMO probably the best fic of hers I've ever read. It's rare that I find a fic so utterly flawless, but this one -- gah, there's nothing I would change. Nothing. There wasn't a single moment where I stopped to think about the writing, or the choice of a word, or the direction the story was going, or the characterizations. I spent the entire time reading it completely enthralled by it, and that is really, really rare for me.

The premise of this fic is just amazing. It felt like an epic from the beginning, and I love epics, so I knew I was in for a treat. But what really blew me away was the intricacy of it all, the fact that she clearly built this world in her mind and then gave the reader only as much information as they needed at any moment. World-building is part of the fun of writing an epic, but it's something that many writers don't do, especially not for a novella-length fic. Even if she never continues this (and I really hope she intends to), this fic feels like a glimpse into an entire HP universe, and that's just fucking great writing.

Summary: Harry knows how he survived the last battle... working out why and what comes next is a different story entirely.

Review: I'm a huge fan of post-war working-out-their-differences Harry/Draco fic, and this one was a fantastic read. I really liked the humor of it, as well as the natural way Harry and Draco became something like friends to something even more. Ron and Hermione were perfect, and the dialogue between the trio was delightful. What I loved the most, though, was the cheekiness that seems to permeate this fic. It was just a joy to read, and I really didn't want it to be over!

Review: I really love [info]somewhatdeluded's writing style, and this fic is a great example of how intoxicating it can be. Add to it that I completely adore this pairing, and you have a recipe for A Fic I Will Love. And hot -- oh, yes, hot!

Summary: The sign on the door says DRACO MALFOY, THINGS FOUND, and Draco endeavors to deliver. But when Harry Potter and his ex-wife come seeking Draco's services, Draco ends up in the middle of a muddle not even he could have divined.

Review: Sometimes you read the first paragraph of a fic and think, "This is going to be so fucking good". This is one of those fics. I was sucked in from the first paragraph, and what a fun ride it was. It has so many things I love in H/D fic -- mutual dislike in the beginning, a complex plot, a perfect dose of angst and hot sex, a lovely twist at the end, and incredibly creative original magic. And I will refrain from spoiling the ending...

Characters: Neville and the Longbottoms, Harry, Lupin, Snape, various Weasleys, Dean, Tonks, and a few original characters for good measure.
Summary: Neville's Gran breaks her hip just after his fifth year at Hogwarts, and he must spend the summer with Harry and Remus at No. 12 Grimmauld Place. He and Harry discover a hidden message in the candy wrappers Neville's mother has been giving him over the years, and they begin to uncover secrets about the past, even as they must confront dangers in the present. Along the way, Neville learns just how much he has in common with The Boy Who Lived, and how to be his own kind of hero.

Review: I have been waiting to rec this one for quite a while.  It's a gorgeous, wonderful novel, and it paints a picture of Neville that has truly become canon for me.  Rita's writing is crisp and honest, and this fic reads a bit like a YA novel. As a disclaimer, I should say that I beta'd this, but seriously?  It's a must-read, the definitive Harry/Neville novel-length fic.

Summary: An ugly truth about Draco's past is revealed when Severus finds Draco strung out on potions in Diagon Alley.

Review: Char's writing is at its best when it's dark like this.  She has a knack for describing the feeling of characters who've hit bottom in a messy and painful way, and then she lets them redeem themselves from it.  This fic is also full of social and political commentary, another thing I like about Char's fics.  It's heartwrenching and uplifting, all at the same time.

It was in the past, wasn't it? And maybe Draco was done with the past, but the past wasn't done with him. It came back like a tidal wave on a calm sea-- out of nowhere when a friend touched his shoulder, or a woman gave him one of those looks.

And he couldn't see it now, wouldn't see it then. He refused to look at Lucius when it happened. He wouldn't look at him after it ended. Draco could barely remember what his father looked like in spite of his talking head being all over London, all over this house. Portraits, reflections of him, his taste, the life he led before they all turned that corner.

Review: The sexual tension in this fic is absolutely gorgeous.  You can feel it winding in your chest (and elsewhere) as you read, and it's perfect.  Draco is a little shit, and James never forgets it, and wow.  Hot!

Review: I read this a while back, but I stumbled across it again today and re-read it. It's fun and sexy and such an enjoyable read.

Harry nodded, trying to fight off images of a bathing Malfoy, especially with his newfound knowledge about Malfoy's probable sexuality. He helped Malfoy into an upright position, then swung his legs over the edge. Malfoy put his arms around Harry's neck and Harry hoisted him up, covering up his sharp inhalation of breath when that brought his body into very close contact with a feverish one. "All right there?" he asked shakily.

"I believe so," Malfoy said, adjusting so only one arm was around Harry's shoulders. Harry noted that Malfoy was actually about two inches taller than him, which made this position rather ideal.

Positions. Harry shook his head again and started the slow journey to the bathroom. Once there, Malfoy grabbed onto the sink and let go of Harry. "If you need me, I'll be right outside," Harry said, rushing out of the lavatory far more quickly than he should have. He was supposed to be the medical professional, and he was acting like a hormonal teenager.

ETA: LOL! I recced this here about a year ago. Ah, well -- it's really that good!

Review: I'm usually leery of recommending WIPs, but this one is completely worth a look. And it will be finished quite soon, as she's posting one part a day during the month of May, so by the time you catch up, there won't be long to wait. This is a hot, sexy, funny, imaginative story, and I love it! As the summary implies, Remus tries to learn to be a more exciting lover for Charlie, and he learns quite a lot along the way. Twists and turns abound, and it's a fun read!

Summary: Seven years after the war, Harry heads up the Auror Office's Internal Investigation Division. One Tuesday morning, he runs into ex-Azkaban convict Draco Malfoy and after that everything turns upside down.

Review: This fic was written especially for me for [info]merry_smutmas, and I adore it! Furiosity figured out exactly what kind of story I love and wrote me something she knew I would like. It's a post-war murder mystery featuring grown-up Harry and Draco, and it hits so many of my buttons! It's got UST, in-denial!Harry, plot, action, and snark, and there's even a little twist at the end! F's dialogue is always sharp, and that's especially true in this fic. It's a fantastic read!

"I wish I could forget you even exist, Malfoy," said Potter in a low voice.

The lift began to move then, as did Draco. He pressed a hand flat against Potter's chest and shoved his thigh between Potter's legs. He leant down and forced his tongue into Potter's mouth, which opened, Draco suspected, from sheer surprise. Potter tasted like every other man Draco had ever kissed -- ashes and regret -- but underneath, there was something fresh, something raw, something Draco could get addicted to if he were allowed. Potter was pushing him away now, forcefully, so Draco tore his mouth from Potter's and looked him straight in the eye.

"Forget this," he said.

The lift stopped with a soft ding and the doors slid open.

Draco stalked out without a backwards glance.

Warnings: Underage, sort of. Voyeurism... sort of.

Review: This fic is an example of what a fucking great writer Nimori is. The premise of the story is brilliant: After Sirius's death, Harry discovers a series of erotic notes apparently written back and forth between him and Sirius during his fifth year -- but Harry doesn't remember writing them. It's breathtaking and chilling, haunting and heart-warming, and leaves you in a little puddle at the end, right next to the puddle Harry is in on the floor. Gorgeous, hot fic! Guh.

A quote:
He doesn't remember ever reading this, doesn't remember replying, but there is a reply, and when he pages through there are a hundred or more entries, half in his own writing, and words leap out at him. Words like cock and love and miss you and fuck me. A scrap of paper falls from the black book, just where the entries trail off around January.

It's a photo of himself, naked. He's flirting with the camera (or the cameraman), all lowered lashes and soundless laughter, and he's ducking his head like he can't believe he's doing this (leaving evidence of his sexuality) but he's still touching himself and flattening his palms over his hipbones so his erection stands straight for the camera.

Warnings: Rimming, very (very) mild BDSM.

Review: She calls it a PWP, but what a gorgeous relationship fic this is! Harry is so sweet and insecure, and he tries so hard to give Draco what he thinks Draco wants. The resulting sex scene is hot and sweet and funny and a little awkward -- perfect. This is one of the hottest descriptions of rimming I've read in a while, too! But it doesn't end there, which makes it all the better.

Review: This fic opens with a bang -- a gorgeous sexy, effing hot bang at that. It was written for a laundry-list-type challenge, and there are moments when you notice, but it's a great little fic nonetheless. It has hot smut, some fun awkward moments, and a sweet Bridget Jones sort of ending that really made me smile. The art is fantastic too, and it's how I found this fic in the first place.

Review: This is a FUN read. Most of the post-HBP H/D fics I've read have been dark and bleak, and I wouldn't have thought it would be possible for there to be one that took all of that canon into consideration and then was fun and light-hearted. But this works, so very well. I really love the tone of Moonflower's Draco in this. He's snarky and self-deprecating and completely full of himself, just like we love the boy. She gives him a sharp wit that made me grin my way through the fic. The sex scene is awkward and tender and glorious, just like I like it.

Draco was essentially hiding from Potter during the daylight hours. As pleased as he was to discover that Potter might be interested in some back door action, and as confident in his irresistible sex appeal as he was (he was a Malfoy, and gorgeous after all), he simply couldn’t afford a distraction like Potter in the present climate. He needed to concentrate on spying and not getting caught doing it, and besides, he was fairly certain (when he chose to admit it to himself during those strangely introspective hours between three am and four) that just under the surface crust of earthy sexual desire, hidden feelings about Potter were growing and spreading like ugly little potatoes. Love potatoes. They needed to be picked and mashed and not allowed to get any bigger or tastier just at the minute. Review: It's interesting that GOF wasn't my favorite book (I liked it more than COS, but meh), so I never really paid much attention to Cedric before. But after the film? Holy shit! That boy is so sweet and hot and ZOMG gay! *grins*

I saw this pairing and immediately thought "ooooh". It's a lovely read, too. Violet has built on movie and book canon and has created a fic that feels like it could be a scene right out of the film. (I wish...) She writes wonderfully natural dialogue, and this fic showcases that well. And the sexual tension between Cedric and Charlie is just glorious. When Cedric was practically melting under Charlie's touch, I was right there with him!

A Quote: "I think we're all really fire breathers..." Charlie murmured, and this time Cedric was sure he felt the lips on his skin. "You just have to find that place deep inside you to really understand." There was a pause, a hesitation, and then - "Want me to help you find it, Cedric?"

Summary: Harry hopes for the best, expects the worst.

Review: This is probably one of the best post-HBP fics I've yet read. I love Marks's style -- so realistic and deliciously sparse, yet satisfying. She has this way to create vivid emotion without excessive description, which I admire very much. This story takes place not long after the end of HBP, with Harry doing just what he says he would in the book -- paying a visit to Godric's Hollow. And then he gets a mysterious owl from Draco Malfoy...

The characterizations in this are so very canonical that I was left shaking my head at how much sense the story makes. To be honest, this feels like the first chapter of something longer. It's almost unsatisfying to know that the story stops where it does, because it seems to be poised just on the edge of a fantastic novel-length story. Hey, maybe if more people go and badger her, Marks will write more? It's worth a shot, at least. ;-)

A Quote: "Maybe I fought my way into your head so you wouldn't see me picturing you on your knees, sucking me under that cloak of yours. I've thought about that so many times, even when I was supposed to be thinking of more important things -- thinking up ways to humiliate you, to hurt you, to fuck you."

Review: If you've ever been a Harry/Sirius fan, this fic is for you. If you like dubious-con first-time fics, this one's for you. If you like good plots, hot sex, and characterizations and scenarios that could be an extension of canon, this fic is for you.

It has a lovely Velvet Goldmine feel to it, on top of everything else. Yum.

Review: As a disclaimer, I should probably say I beta'd this fic. But then, if you know who this author is, you'll already understand that this doesn't matter. I'm not a big Snape fan, and I'll admit that Rita has dragged me kicking and screaming into reading this pairing. But now that I'm here? Oh, man. It's such wonderful angsty stuff! I adore Rita's Snape. He's so canonical, so real, and so delightfully self-possesed. Her Lupin is broken, yet strong, which is a wonderful combination.

This fic is part of a larger arc she's writing, but it stands alone. It takes place at the beginning of Snape and Lupin's relationship, sometime after the end of OOTP. Both men have a lot of sexual baggage and they spend this fic trying to sort it out. It's uplifting to see two people begin to help each other recover this way, and it only makes what happens at the end of HBP that much more bittersweet.
